The Florida League High School (FLHS) division is making strides this fall as it is competing in different tournaments across the state of Florida. To date, FLHS teams have played in the ProspectWire Fall Classic, IBC Bay Area Fall Showcase and Perfect Game's PGBA Seminole Invitational.

Recently, both teams have found success in the Perfect Game PGBA Seminole Invitational and the IBC Bay Area Fall Showcase.

FLHS Baseball 15U

Led by Head Coach Kenne Brown, the FLHS 15U team went 2-2 in the Perfect Game PGBA before finishing as Runner-up in the IBC Bay Area Showcase.

PGBA Tournament

At the PGBA, Brown's team started off strong with an 8-1 win against FTB Nelly and a 7-4 win against ChandlerWorld 15U.

Mason Mazarredo had a 2-RBI triple in game 1 versus FTB Nelly while Joshua Glazar, Michael Lindsey, and Zachary McAuley each chipped in with RBI's of their own. Ricky Gaines scored 2 runs at the plate while pitching 3.1 innings of 1 run ball. Thomas Fink slammed the door shut with 5 strikeouts in the final 3.2 innings.

In game 2 versus ChandlerWorld, the 15U used a 7 run 6th inning to overcome a 2-0 ChandlerWorld lead and win the game. Joshua Glazar went the distance on the mound allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. He also hit a double and scored a run. David Gallagher had 2 RBI's and a run scored.

FLHS 15U couldn't get the bats going on day 2 mustering only 6 hits in two games. They wasted a a 7 inning complete game effort on the mound by Mason Mazarredo to lose 3-0 to 7-tools Vanguard in game 1. In game 2, the team only had 2 hits and lost 9-2 to the A-Team. Devin Ramotar had the team's lone RBI and David Gallagher pitched a scoreless frame with 2 strikeouts in the 6th.

IBC Bay Area Showcase

(limited statistical information available)

After missing their first IBC Tournament due to Hurricane Matthew, FLHS 15U jumped out of the gates at the Bay Area Showcase with a 15 run output against the Lake Wales Legends winning 15-7. Their second game was nothing short of dramatic when Tyler Harding was the hero with a walk-off double to send 15U to a 2-0 record with a 5-4 win over Dawg Pound. On Sunday, 15U drew Dawg Pound again, but this time saved the drama for another game winning handily 11-3 and earning themselves a spot in the Championship game versus the O-City Orioles.  Unfortunately they came up short in a close 1-run battle, eventually losing 2-1. The second place finish was 15U's best finish so far this fall.  Tyler Harding and Joshua Glazar led the way on the mound and at the plate on the weekend. Ricky Gaines and Andrew Garcia each had solid outings on the mound while Jalen Bandhoo had a good weekend at the plate.

FLHS Baseball 17U

Head Coach Derek Wolfe managed the 17U team to its first Championship this fall at the IBC Bay Area Showcase, and also had a solid outing at the Perfect Game PGBA Invitational with a 2-2 showing.

PGBA Tournament

Wins proved to be elusive on Saturday at the PGBA as FLHS 17U lost two 1-run games. In its first game to FTB Orlando 7-6 after losing the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. Mick Addis (3-3, RBI), Jason Jucker (1-3, R, RBI) and Scott Fickas (1-3, 2B, R, 2RBI) led the way at the plate in the losing effort. In the second game, 17U came up short against the Black Sox 4-3. Matthew Allan (2-3, 2B, RBI) Christopher Soto (1-3, RBI) and Ryan Demaree (1-2, RBI) were responsible for the run production. Jayce Brandt entered the game in relief with his team down by 2 runs. Brandt pitched 2 scoreless frames, giving 17U a chance, but they could only muster 1 run.

Sunday saw history as the 17U turn things around with a pair of 8 run games. In game 1, Noah Doreste pitched the first NO-HITTER in FLHS program history. Doreste was dominant striking out 11 of the 18 NLAA batters he faced and would earn the 8-0 victory. Offensively, the team gave Doreste all of the run support he needed plating 7 runs in the first inning. Ryan Demaree (1-2, HR, 2R, 2RBI) had a big game at the plate while Norbert Savard (1-2, 2RBI) and Mick Addis (1-1, 2B, BB, 2RBI) each had 2RBI performances. In game 2, Neil Patel led the team to victory against FTB Figueroa, pitching a complete game allowing only 1 earned run in 7 innings. The middle of the 17U batting order brought the thunder in this one. Matthew Allan (2-3, HR, 5RBI, R) had a massive day at the plate thanks to his grand-slam home run in the 5th inning. Scott Fickas (2-3, 2B, 3R) and Mick Addis (2-3, 2-2B, R, 2RBI) also led the charge and FLHS 17U finished out the tournament with an 8-2 win.

IBC Bay Area Showcase

(limited statistical information available)

FLHS 17U went undefeated at the IBC Bay Area Showcase to claim their first tournament Championship this fall. Matthew Allan got the team off to a great start spinning a complete game shutout, earning the 6-0 win against Dawg Pound. The team went on to beat the GCBA Black Sox (12-1), S8 Renegades (5-1), Dawg Pound (1-0) and in the Championship Game they beat Team GRSD (5-3). The story of the weekend was dominant pitching and offense. In 34 innings played, the pitching staff allowed just 1 earned run. In those same 34 innings, the offense exploded for 29 runs scored. At the plate on the weekend, Scott Fickas, Matthew Allan, Mick Addis and Ricky Martinez stood out. The team was led on the mount by Jayce Brandt, Noah Doreste, Jack Hope and Matthew Allan.
